9/11 – We Remember.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks unfolded in the United States, leaving a lasting impact on the nation and the world. Nineteen militants associated with the extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes, turning them into weapons of mass destruction.

The attacks began at 8:46 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time, when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Approximately 17 minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center. The resulting fires caused catastrophic damage to both skyscrapers, leading to their collapse later in the morning.

At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, causing a partial collapse of the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense.

The fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was diverted from its intended target, believed to be in Washington, D.C., after passengers and crew members courageously fought back against the hijackers. The plane ultimately crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, at 10:03 a.m.

The September 11 attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people, including the 19 hijackers. The victims included passengers and crew on the four flights, workers and visitors in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and hundreds of first responders who rushed to the scenes of the attacks. The events of 9/11 prompted the United States to launch the “War on Terror,” leading to military operations in Afghanistan and significant changes in national security and aviation policies.

These attacks occurred in 2001, the same year Panfishpro.com launched. Prior to these events, it was a period of significant excitement for our company. We were actively engaged in online product sales, at a time when internet commerce was arguably in its nascent stages. Our products were being shipped nationwide, with a limited number of international orders. This represented a novel and enriching learning experience, proving to be both challenging and enjoyable, fulfilling all our initial expectations, and then some, until the morning of September 11th.

The future of our nation, our populace, and our organization was uncertain. What events would transpire next? On that morning, our telephone and internet services experienced intermittent disruptions, and sales abruptly ceased. A profound sense of disbelief and anger permeated, accompanied by unprovoked attacks on innocent individuals across the nation, occurring prior to the dissemination of any factual information.

We maintained continuous communication with our product and material suppliers to ascertain their assessment of the situation and whether normal business operations would resume. Definitive answers remained elusive. Like our suppliers, we were collectively captivated by our television screens, awaiting information and hoping for clarity regarding this unprovoked assault on our nation.

In the wake of this immense tragedy, a remarkable sense of national unity emerged. For a time, people treated one another with greater kindness and respect. This period saw families strengthening their bonds and an increase in marriages, as many rediscovered the profound importance of human connection. This same spirit of solidarity reinforced our relationships with suppliers and customers, creating a collective resolve and an unspoken certainty that we would endure this together.

Twenty-four years have passed since the events that reshaped our world in lasting ways. Our nation and its people endured, and we at Panfishpro are grateful to have endured alongside them. While that tragedy taught us many things, the most vital lesson is one we hope will always remain: that our connections to family and our shared humanity are our most precious treasures.
